Links between home and school are vital for developing positive building blocks for children as they embark on their education journey. We value the knowledge that parents and carers have of their children and the impact that it can have on children starting positively in Nursery. There are lots of things you can do support before the children start and when they are in Nursery.
We encourage the children to be as independent as possible such as – encouraging them to put on their own coat and do put their zips up and to be able to use the toilet on their own.
Encourage your child to be inquisitive about letters in the world around them, play games such as eye spy. Encourage your child to recognise their name and try to spot the letters in their name out and about. We follow the Jolly Phonics scheme which you can share with your child by searching Jolly Phonics on YouTube.
Numbers are all around us! Take every opportunity to recognise and talk about numbers in the environment. Encourage your children to look out for numbers; on signposts, on houses, car number plates, on buses, drain covers, postboxes and bus timetables.
Take time to read to your children! All sorts of books, fiction and non fiction. Talk about the pictures and look at the writing. Can your child spot any letters that they recognise?
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
